SINGAPORE: American television personality and supermodel Tyra Banks is currently in Singapore as part of her promotion efforts for “Asia's Next Top Model” reality series. She spoke to reporters at the Resorts World Sentosa hoping to galvanize interest in the new series based on the popular American show by the same name. Banks said the current trend of putting Asian models on the cover of magazines “should be a staple.” The creator of America's Next Top Model also said she dislikes the term “plus-sized” that is used to describe curvy women, adding that she would prefer the term “fiercely real.” Calling herself a curvy woman in the fashion industry, Banks told the 40 media workers that she is always striving through the show, to “expand the definition of beauty and show how women can be different but still beautiful in their own way.” The 13-episode series of Asia's Next Top Model is expected to be broadcast from late 2012. Besides discovering fresh new Asian talent, the show will also be a platform to recognize the array of Asian models in fashion, she said.
