LAGOS: Leading Telco, Globacom emerged Telecoms Operator of the Year at the Beacon of ICT (BoICT) Awards held last weekend, where it also clinched two other awards for its excellent performance in the telecoms sector. At the award ceremony which was held at Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, Globacom won the Telecoms Operator of the Year. Globacom was also awarded the Submarine Cable Company of the Year for its significant contribution to both telecom and internet services in Nigeria. The Best Promo of the Year Award also went home with Glo, as the Text4millions Season 2 promo was said to have transformed a lot of lives. Organizers of the BoICT award, CommunicationsWeek, explained that it was set up to reward the vision and enterprise of individuals and companies that have contributed to the growth of the ICT industry in Nigeria. Editor-in-Chief and Chief Executive Officer of the magazine, Ken Nwogbo, explained that the Telecom Operator of the Year award was given to Glo as a recognition of “Glo Mobile's unparalleled achievements and for variously impressing with its ability to reinvent the wheel, for breathing life into fixed line service with Glo Broadaccess, for providing sufficient bandwidth for economic prosperity through Glo 1 and for helping the realization of government's cashless policy through Glo Text Cash (mobile money ), amongst other initiatives.” Globacom's Executive Director, Adewale Sangowawa expressed gratitude for the awards and attributed the recognition to the hard work of the Board, Management and staff of the company. At the attendance of the award ceremony were former Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Ernest Ndukwe, who chaired the event and Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.
