LAGOS: As part of their aim to enhance technology in the country, the staff and students of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede have designed and constructed the first electronic scoreboard for the ongoing 17th Nigeria Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA). The NIPOGA games which held at the institution in Osun state, was tagged “Ede 2012″. All those responsible for this feat were highly-commended by the Minister of Education, Ruqayat Rufai during the opening ceremony of the NIPOGA games. The minister expressed delight with the student's development and their commendable initiative to boost technology in the state. This came at a time when Technical Vocational Education and Training in the country had been relegated to the background. The focus is on white collar professions leading to poor funding in most schools of technology. She remarked, “I am aware that in the history of NIPOGA Games, the Federal Polytechnic Ede is introducing the first electronic scoreboard designed and constructed by staff and students. “It has also introduced a mascot, a dedicated website and a standard media centre with internet connectivity.” She called on the polytechnic to make efforts to mass produce the scoreboard for subsequent use in the nation's sports. The minister was represented by Adeojo Aimola, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics at the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). The admirable performance of students in technical education may be a sign of better times for technological development in the country.
