LAGOS: Ecobank Nigeria has revealed its plans to deploy about 10,000 Point of Sale (POS) Machines in Lagos state. This is part of its efforts to ensure that the Central Bank of Nigeria's (CBN) new cash policy succeeds. Ecobank which said this in a statement, disclosed that it had already deployed about 2,000 PoS machines in the state, since the commencement of the policy in the state. It added, “The bank which is now a first-tier bank after the successful takeover and integration of former Oceanic Bank, now boast of over 600 branches and 890 Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) across the country,”. Mike Ogbalu, Ecobank Head, e-Products and Cards stated: “Cash-less banking is easy with Ecobank. We have a full range of innovative products and services designed to make the transition to cash-less Lagos seamless for all our customers.” According to Ogbalu, Ecobank has also improved its banking products so as to enhance the new cash policy. These products include the Ecobank Internet Banking, would enable customers do their banking on-line securely from anywhere at any time and also a wide range of cards products such as Visa cards, MasterCard and the Ecobank Regional Card. Ogbalu further stressed that heavy cash transactions in Nigeria had over the years, slowed down the growth of the financial sector. Therefore, the full implementation of the policy would save money for the banks and depositors in respect of cash handling cost.
