CAIRO: Egypt's Administrative Court rejected this week a lawsuit calling for granting former President Hosni Mubarak and his family a pardon in exchange for ceding their money by holding a referendum. The court ruling dismissed the request of the lawsuit under the chairmanship of Judge Ali Fikri, President of the Administrative court. The court said in its ruling that there was “no legal provision in the Constitution or the law that requires the state to make a referendum on granting Mubarak a pardon or not,” and that there is “no administrative decision, which compels the court not to accept the case for lack of the administrative decision.” Lawyer Nabih Taha al-Bahei had filed his lawsuit against the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) and the Cabinet, calling for amnesty for Mubarak and his family after a referendum for ceding their money and assets back to the country. The lawyer said in his claim that the “people are going through a difficult period and that the trial of Mubarak stirred divisions between supporters and opponents of this trial,” explaining that Suzanne Mubarak “was pardoned for waiving her money” and he was demanding to do the same with Mubarak.
