CAIRO: Co-founder of Egypt's April 6 Youth Movement and prominent activist Ahmed Maher suffered a concussion and head injury late on Saturday night at the corner of Mansour street when he was attempting to break up the clashes between police and protesters. Maher's friends present at the scene reported that he was hit on the head with a heavy object and was taken to the field hospital nearby. Maher had been part of a human shield at the frontline to halt the violence that had entered its third day following the death of 75 football fans at an Ahly and Masry once the referee blew his whistle and security was seen opening the door for them and fleeing the scene to allow the chaos to occur. Clashes lasted for hours with no presence of police or medical attention, which led to the deaths of many critically injured people. Volunteer doctors at the clinic in downtown Cairo told Maher to go to a local hospital immediately as they suspected a serious head injury or concussion. Maher was taken to al-Qasr al-Aini hospital where ex rays were done on his head and showed a concussion and minor internal bleeding in the brain. Maher's condition is stable at the moment, but doctors are keeping an eye on him and advised him not to talk or stress himself.
