CAIRO: A number of Egyptian youth movements plan to protest in front of parliament headquarters in Cairo on Monday, the day set for parliament to adjourn. The protesters hope to call upon their elected representatives to support their demands against the ruling Military Council, and are set to demand that the army hand power to the speaker of parliament. The protests were called for by the Coalition of the Youth of the 25 January Revolution and the 6th of April Movement. They plan to organize a march set off from Tahrir Square to the parliament building on Qasr El-Eini Street, demanding the transition of power to either the Speaker of the People's Assembly or to a committee elected by the parliament that would include a number trusted national figures. Mahmoud Afifi, the spokesperson of the 6th of April Movement said that they called for a protest in front of the parliament to demand an expedited power transfer and to call for the adoption of a national minimum and maximum wage. A group of writers, artists and actors sad they are also organizing a march on the same day from the Cairo Opera House toward the parliament to implore the newly elected MPs not to interfere in the arts and entertainment business, after some Islamist MPs called for strict censorship over media, arts, and cinema in the country.
