CAIRO: The death toll from Sunday's building collapse in the Beirut neighborhood of Ashrafieh has climbed to at least 17, according to police. The five-story residential building was built in the 1960s. The collapse took place due to cracks that had formed in the building due to recent bad weather. Five of the victims were Lebanese citizens, including a 15-year-old girl. The others were foreigners from Egypt, the Philippines, Jordan and Sudan. Authorities are continuing to remove debris and uncover bodies from the rubble. BM
