CAIRO: Egypt's advisory council appointed by the ruling military junta recommended that the number of members of Parliament appointed to the country's legislative body be raised from 10 to 30. Before the revolution and before the suspension of the Egyptian Constitution of 1971, ousted President Hosni Mubarak had the authority to appoint 10 MPs where it was said that he used these powers in order to give more representation to women and Coptic Christians. The Advisory Council's Assistant General Secretary Sherif Zahran explained in a press conference that if the SCAF increases the number of appointed MPs, “this would provide an opportunity to more youth and young people to be represented at the parliament and would add energy to the national political life.” The council said that it is still anticipating a response from the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) to the proposal, and said the members approved this call unanimously.
