College Football week 9 round-up
Published in Bikya Masr on 30 - 10 - 2011

Week 9 of the College Football season was filled with some upsets, a few thrills, and a couple records. Finally!
Here's the Round Up:
No. 3 Oklahoma State (8-0, 5-0 Big12) was the highest ranked team to play this weekend and through a strong overall performance they trounced the Baylor Bears (4-3, 1-3 Big12) 59-24 in Stillwater, OK. Robert Griffin III, a one time leading Heisman candidate, had a rough outing against the Cowboys throwing 2 Ints. OSU Running Back Joseph Randle set career highs in yards with 152 and TDs with 4 and Justin Blackmon pitched in with 13 catches for 172 yards and 2 scores.
Key Performers: QB B. Weeden OSU 24/36 274 Yds. 3 TDs 0 Ints
RB J. Randle OSU 14 Carries 152 Yds. 4 TDs
WR J. Blackmon OSU 13 Catches 172 Yds. 2 TDs
No. 5 Clemson (8-1, 5-1 ACC) was dumped 31-17 on Saturday after Georgia Tech (7-2, 4-2 ACC) QB Tevin Washington ran for a GT record 176 yards and 1 TD. A week after losing badly on the road to Miami, the Yellow Jackets did what they did best: run the ball. They annihilated the Tigers on the ground by racking up 383 yards. Washington got it done mostly with his legs, only attempting 9 passes. Even more stunning was that he completed just 4 passes but that was all Tech needed after Clemson gave the ball away 4 times.
Key Performers: QB T. Washington GT 4/9 60 Yds. 0 TDs 1 Ints
QB T. Washington GT 27 Carries 176 Yds. 1 TD
WR S. Watkins CLEM 10 Catches 159 1 TD
No. 6 Stanford (8-0, 6-0 Pac12) not only won their game against unranked USC (6-2, 3-2 Pac12) but they won the award (unofficial) for most entertaining game of the season (so far). It took 3 overtimes but Stanford QB Andrew Luck kept his team in the hunt with a 56-48 win in Los Angeles. The Cardinal QB threw for 330 yards and 3 TDs, along with 1 pick, and ran in another. It was close throughout and a Stepfan Taylor 3 yard run with 38 seconds left in the 4th forced overtime in the LA Coliseum. Both teams exchanged scores in the extra periods but on USC's final possession in the 3rd OT, Trojan RB Curtis McNeal fumbled into the end zone sealing their fate and a 2nd loss of the season.
Key Performers:
QB A. Luck STAN 29/40 330 Yds. 3 TDs 1 Ints
RB C. McNeal USC 20 Carries 145 Yds. 2 TDs
WR G. Whalen STAN 6 Catches 102 Yds.
