CAIRO: Around 25 staff workers at the police hospital in Agouza entered an open strike on Monday, in opposition to the hospital's decision to receive former Minister of Interior Habib al-Adly for treatment, a source inside the hospital said. The former minister is currently on trial for the death of approximately 1,000 Egyptian protesters during the January-Feburay uprising that was met with great violence from the security forces under his leadership. Adly is also facing charges of abuse of power in his some two decades in power. It was unclear how serious Adly's condition is, but initial reports state he is being treated for cataracts. Workers at the hospital that specializes in treating police staff and their families and is subsdised by the state, complained that Adly is receiving a “premium service” inside the hospital, which irritated many of the hospital staff. This coincides with a larger scale strike of police staff in which they are calling for better financial gains and the “cleansing” of the ministry of those affiliated with the old regime and remain in their positions.
