CAIRO: An Egyptian court of in Cairo on Thursday said it would make a ruling in the lawsuit for removing the name and pictures of former President Hosni Mubarak and his wife from fields, streets, schools, libraries and all the establishments located in the country and to be replaced by the names of the “martyrs” of the January 25 revolution. The court will issue a ruling on April 21. The judge interfered many times to settle the controversies and quarrels that have taken place inside the courtroom between the both parties of the lawsuit, but they did not respond to the warnings. The court session continued for half an hour surrounded by nearly 100 people in front of the Abdeen court, from both supporters and opponents of former President Hosni Mubarak. The supporters raised banners demanding “not to erase the history of 30 years,” which caused clashes, insults and counter chants between the two sides that developed into the throwing of stones at each other. The situation was later controlled after the Central Security Forces surrounded them. The supporters withdrew and headed to Abdeen's palace and the opposing side chanted “The police and the people are one hand,” stated Al Gareda newspaper. The defense lawyers demanded lifting all photos of the former President and his wife from all offices and government agencies in addition to not putting pictures of any person who takes the presidency in the future and replace it with a picture of the Egyptian flag instead of a president's image, “as it is the main code of the state.” They closed their case with a request to lift the name of Mubarak and his family of the army units, and replace it by the name of the Field Marshal Saad El Shazly, the real hero of the October War, according to the lawyers, who also demanded the dismissal of Suzanne Mubarak from the presidency of the National Council for Women. The defense said: “Mubarak and his family don't deserve to put their names or photographs in any governmental body because they are killers, they gave instructions to police to kill protesters, and this is clear from the prosecution's investigations and the issuance of a decision by Abdel Meguid Mahmoud, the Attorney General, to imprison them.” The defense also presented a military service status certificate of Khaled Said as a “martyr” of the corrupt ruling. For the second time the State Deputy did not attend the trial session to present his requests. BM
