CAIRO: The Interior Ministry's personnel building in downtown Cairo has been set aflame by police officers protesting against being dismissed, according to eyewitness reports. “People in building surrounding the min of interior told not to speak to journalists or let people up to see what's happening one man told me,” reported al-Jazeera English correspondent Sherine Tadros on Twitter just before 2pm on Wednesday. “Military v hostile outside min of interior tried to take my phone and man handled me away from area… other (Egyptian) media also being turned away from near interion min,” read previous tweets. Journalist Sarah Carr reported on Twitter that the Egyptian army is preventing any pictures from being taken. For the past few days, Egyptian police have been demonstrating outside the Ministry of Interior calling for higher wages. Other said they had been fired. Egypt's Minister of the Interior, Mahmoud Wagdi, on Monday pledged to look into the policemen's complaints and to double police bonuses. BM
