CAIRO: On Friday, February 5 the U.S. Embassy released a statement saying it had no involvement in the shocking video circulating the internet which seems to show a diplomatic vehicle plowing through a crowd of unarmed demonstrators. The vehicle is claimed to be a diplomatic van belonging to the U.S. Embassy in Cairo. It is one of many home videos which have caused outrage among Egyptians and the international community over the past thirteen days. The video, which can be seen here, has had over 12,000 views on YouTube in the past two days. The Embassy statement said no American personnel were involved. According to MSNBC, the statement said: “We have seen a video that alleges a U.S. diplomatic vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run incident that injured dozens in Cairo. We are certain that no embassy employees or diplomats were involved in this incident.” The statement also said on the day the video was taken, January 28, a number of U.S. Embassy vehicles had been stolen. The statement continued, “Since these vehicles were stolen, we have heard reports of their use in violent and criminal acts. If true, we deplore these acts and the perpetrators.” The white Chevrolet van with diplomatic license plates was driven with speed through the street which was packed with protesters, hours after police had withdrawn from Cairo streets, killing some and injuring others.
