Egypt's Telecommunications Minister Amr Talaat held several meetings with representatives of Japanese companies, during his visit to Japan to participate in the G20 Ministerial Meeting on Digital Economy. A statement from the Telecommunications Ministry on Friday explained that Talaat met with Toshiya Matsuki, Executive Vice President of NEC, to discuss possibly establishing a regional branch in Egypt that would serve Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. He also discussed establishing a research and development center for the company in Egypt, similar to that in Europe, which focuses on the development of embedded systems, great amounts of data, cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), computer learning, cybersecurity and data science. The meeting further reviewed the possibility of implementing joint research and developmental projects in Egypt, in cooperation with various ministries finding technological solutions in various sectors such as agriculture and transport, as well as cooperation within the field of technical support for information technology. NEC is a multinational Japanese company working in information technology and networking technology, with over 100 years experience in technological innovation. The Minister also met Naoyoshi Takatsuna, vice president of Fujitsu. They discussed how to benefit from the company's expertise in establishing a regional center for excellence in Egypt, a research and development laboratory and IT support for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, focusing on cloud computing, the Internet of Things, cyber security, digital transformation, and AI.
