Barcelona- Egypt's Minister of Communications, Amr Talaat, witnessed on Monday the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Telecom Egypt (TE) and Huawei to establish a strategic partnership between both companies in the field of cloud computing.
It came during Talaat's participation in the Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona from 25 to 28 February.
Talaat said that based on this agreement, Huawei will establish a cloud computing platform in Egypt, the first of its kind in Africa and the Middle East.
"This agreement is considered the first of its kind for TE, and a leap on the road to a digital transformation. The company is always seeking to cooperate with major technology companies, like Huawei, in order to contribute to national and regional development, while creating new income resources for the company. We hope to offer and develop innovative ideas, such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud services to a wide range of clients," said Adel Hamed, the managing director of TE.
Cloud computing services do not include government services. It offers its high storage services for individuals and SMEs which helps increase the work efficiency.
The MoU comes within the framework of TE's strategy to keep up with the technological development through establishing a cloud computing platform that meets the needs of its clients, including companies and government services. The MoU is part of the efforts made to contribute to implementing the state's strategy for digital transformation and turning the country into a regional digital hub.
In a related context, Talaat held a meeting with Mark Showman, the vice chairperson of Huawei Technologies, and Huawei Egypt CEO, Terry Liu, to discuss the possibility of expanding the global company's work in Egypt.
The meeting has seen the possibility of looking into cooperation with the global company to provide training programmes specialised in the field of artificial intelligence and smart cities for 4,000 trainees every year.
