The construction works at the first phase of Cairo Metro Line 4 is scheduled to be finished by 2022 with total cost estimated at 25 billion Egyptian pounds (US$2.8 billion). Egyptian Transport Minister Galal El-Saeed stated Sunday that the first phase of Line 4 would be finance by the Japanese government. The consulting contracts of phase one has been signed with the Japanese side with total cost estimated at 900 million Egyptian pounds, the minister clarified, adding that both sides agreed on the whole duration necessary for execution processes and starting operation. El-Saeed noted that current studies show that the first phase of Line 4 is expected to transport around 700,000 passengers every day, thus, reducing the traffic in El-Haram street and Giza square. Cairo Metro Line 4 is set to operate with the capacity of 1.8 million passengers after being completed, the minister said. The first phase is set to distance between Remaya Square up to El-Malek El-Saleh station of Line 1, encompassing 17 stations with the length of 19 km. Line 4 is set to meet the increased demand of transport in the area of El-Haram - Faysel - Gize - Sayda Zeinab - El-Azhar and Portsaid street.
