Egypt's Ministry of Housing has released on Tuesday a step-by-step digital guide for tenants affected by the country's old rent law, enabling them to apply for alternative housing units through the Egypt Digital Platform. The initiative aims to simplify access for tenants navigating the long-standing law that regulates relationships between landlords and tenants, part of Egypt's broader push to modernise housing and digitalise government services. Applicants are required to create an account on the platform, select the "Alternative Housing" service, and complete a detailed online form. The form collects personal and employment details, rented-unit information, family composition, health and disability data, and business registration information where applicable. The platform also verifies mobile phone numbers via SMS to protect account security. The process includes automated features such as pre-filling rented-unit addresses based on electricity metre codes, with options for manual correction. Applicants must review all entries before final submission, acknowledging that any false information may result in denial of state support and legal accountability. A video tutorial on completing the application is available at https://youtu.be/hyL2ekU50Kw Technical assistance is available through the platform's hotline at 15999. The ministry said the online system is designed to make the process simple and accessible, reflecting ongoing efforts to improve citizen services and ensure tenants under the old rent law can transition smoothly to alternative housing units.
