Egypt will begin accepting applications on Oct. 1 from tenants eligible for alternative housing under a new tenancy law No. 164 of 2025, Minister of Housing Sherif El-Sherbiny said Wednesday. The applications will continue for three months. Speaking during the 54th Cabinet meeting, the minister said requests can be submitted via an online platform or through post offices across the country. Applicants must create an online account to track their requests, upload documents and fill out a digital form. Eligibility extends to original tenants, their spouses if leases were transferred before the law took effect, and others whose leases have been extended. For non-residential units, applications may be made by original tenants or those to whom leases were transferred. Requests must specify the property's address, preferred allocation system—subsidised rent, rent-to-own or ownership via mortgage—and desired geographic location.
