Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and First Lady Jane Ittogi on Monday oversaw the delivery of a new aid package for Gaza during a historic visit to the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) headquarters in Cairo. The package, coordinated between the ERC and the Singapore Red Cross, included two relief aircraft carrying more than 19 tons of medical and humanitarian supplies, a sea shipment with over nine tons of food, and nine trucks transporting more than 131 tons of food. ERC Executive Director Amal Imam said the support builds on an aid project launched with the Singapore Red Cross in late 2023, with a second phase delivered in March 2025. She also announced a new agreement to provide a mobile educational unit for Gaza's children, accommodating teachers, facilitators and students aged six to 18. President Tharman, on his first official visit to Egypt, discussed the project with Egypt's Ministers of Social Solidarity and Education, who joined the visit along with ERC and Singapore Red Cross officials. The delegation also inspected aid trucks and tents destined for Gaza, and witnessed the handover of a separate package dedicated to Palestinian patients in Egypt and their families. Social Solidarity Minister Maya Morsy hailed the visit as "historic," noting that the ERC has coordinated Egypt's aid response to Gaza for more than 700 days, with the support of 35,000 volunteers. She said Egypt has delivered over 570,000 tons of humanitarian aid to the enclave, including food, medicines, fuel, and relief supplies, through the Rafah and Kerem Shalom crossings. Imam said the ERC has received 916 humanitarian flights and nearly 600 aid shipments, coordinating with 59 countries. She added that 209 ambulances and four field hospitals had been sent into Gaza, alongside 81,380 tons of fuel, while two hospitals were established in Arish to treat the wounded.
