Egypt has joined the European Union's €95 billion Horizon Europe programme, expanding its access to the bloc's flagship research and innovation funding, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency on Wednesday. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the first EU–Egypt Summit in Brussels, attended by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, European Council President António Costa, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The move allows Egyptian universities, research institutions, and innovators to take part directly in EU-funded projects focused on climate action, clean energy, digital transformation, and healthcare. Horizon Europe, the EU's largest research and innovation framework, supports collaborative projects to tackle global challenges while driving competitiveness and sustainable growth. The deal aligns with the broader Egypt–EU Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which aims to deepen cooperation in education, technology, and innovation as Cairo looks to strengthen its international scientific ties.
