Egypt's Red Crescent has spent $105 million from its budget on Gaza relief in the past 21 months, sending record aid convoys, medical support and food to the enclave, Social Solidarity Minister Maya Morsi said. Speaking in a press conference on Wednesday, Minister Morsi said the Red Crescent's work is backed by more than 4 billion Egyptian pounds in donations from the public and civil society groups. "Egyptians have given from their own food to help their brothers and sisters in Gaza," she stated. Since the war erupted on Oct. 7, 2023, more than 35,000 aid trucks carrying nearly 500,000 tons of relief supplies have entered Gaza under Egyptian coordination, alongside the deployment of 176 ambulances to the Palestinian side. The Red Crescent, which leads the national relief operation, has mobilised 35,000 volunteers and set up new customs and logistics hubs in North Sinai and Ismailia to safeguard shipments. In just four days, a recent convoy delivered about 4,500 essential food parcels to Gaza. A humanitarian kitchen established in Sheikh Zuweid in March has provided more than 500,000 hot meals and 2 million loaves of bread for displaced and stranded Palestinians, with fresh bread now entering Gaza daily. Egypt has also facilitated the entry of four international field hospitals and received two floating hospital ships at Arish port to treat the wounded. The Red Crescent has assisted over 107,000 people crossing from Rafah, including 7,277 injured Palestinians and their companions. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English
