The Egyptian National Railways Authority (ENR) on Sunday operated its tenth special train to help Sudanese citizens return home voluntarily, as part of a state-led initiative to support those displaced by conflict. Train No. 1940 departed Cairo for Aswan carrying hundreds of Sudanese families, the government said in a statement. Authorities provided support teams for the elderly, organised luggage transfers, and ensured safety and comfort during the journey, it added. The voluntary return programme has so far transported about 9,548 Sudanese nationals on nine previous trips, averaging 940 passengers per train. The railway authority confirmed it is preparing additional special trains in coordination with Sudanese counterparts to meet growing demand, The initiative, overseen by Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir, aims to ease travel for Sudanese residents in Egypt and underscores what officials described as the "deep historical and humanitarian ties" between the two neighbours.
