Egypt's Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Swailam has held talks with officials from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) on the sidelines of World Water Week in Stockholm. Talks focused on potential areas of cooperation, including improving irrigation distribution systems by shifting to discharge-based management, treating and reusing agricultural drainage water, climate change adaptation, flood risk management, strengthening early warning systems, and enhancing agricultural practices. Swailam praised Sweden's longstanding support, particularly through SIDA, for Egypt and African countries in the water sector, and expressed Egypt's interest in expanding cooperation. He also invited Sweden to continue active participation in Cairo Water Week, climate conferences, and the upcoming United Nations Water Conference in 2026. The meeting also addressed Egypt's concerns over transboundary water issues, stressing the importance of applying international law to shared rivers and highlighting Egypt's efforts to support Nile Basin countries.
