Egypt's Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Swailam held a meeting on Wednesday with Finland's special envoy for water Antti Rautavaara on the sidelines of World Water Week in Stockholm. Talks covered areas of cooperation in the water sector and future collaboration prospects. Both sides stressed the importance of keeping water issues at the heart of global climate action, particularly ahead of COP30 and the 2026 UN Water Conference, with the aim of forging a unified vision on global water challenges. Swailam also raised Egypt's concerns over transboundary water issues and underscored the need to apply international law on shared rivers. He highlighted Egypt's support for Nile Basin countries, noting the launch of a financing mechanism worth 100 million dollars to study and implement development projects in the southern Nile Basin countries.
