Egypt's Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) signed a $130 million agreement with China's Everfar Textile Egypt LLC to build a fully integrated textile and garment facility in West Qantara, the zone authority said Tuesday. The plant, which will cover 145,000 square meters, is expected to create more than 3,200 direct jobs and dedicate all of its output to exports. Annual production capacity will exceed 7.5 million tons of processed fabrics, 20 million metres of garment fabrics, and 3.6 million ready-made garments, alongside garment accessories, according to SCZONE Chairman Waleid Gamal El-Dien. The deal brings total contracted investments in West Qantara to approximately $989.3 million across 35 projects, providing around 51,205 jobs, the authority said. "Everfar's project is one of the biggest in the textile and weaving sector signed in the SCZONE," Gamal El-Dien said. Egypt has been stepping up efforts to attract Chinese industrial investment into the zone as part of its strategy to boost exports, deepen supply chains and expand private-sector participation in manufacturing.
