China's Hightex to invest $17m in decorative fabrics plant in Egypt's West Qantara

Chinese textile manufacturer Hightex Co., Ltd Hangzhou. will invest $17 million to build a decorative fabrics and home textiles plant in Egypt's West Qantara Zone, the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) said on Tuesday.
The facility, which will cover 65,000 square metres, is expected to produce more than 20 million metres of fabric annually, entirely for export, and will create around 300 direct jobs, SCZONE Chairman Waleid Gamal El-Dien said after signing the contract with HIGHTEX Chairman Wenlong Lu.
The investment is fully self-financed and adds to Egypt's growing textile hub in Qantara West, which now hosts 20 projects with a combined $596.5 million in investment and over 27,600 jobs, according to the statement.
"The Qantara West zone is a success story in attracting global textile investors and advancing industrial localisation and exports," Gamal El-Dien said. He added that project integration across spinning, weaving, apparel, and decorative fabrics is helping to build a value-added supply chain to boost Egypt's regional competitiveness.
The SCZONE highlighted the area's strategic location between its Red Sea and Mediterranean ports and its access to a large, skilled labour pool as key factors in attracting labour-intensive industries.
Founded in Hangzhou in 1990, Hightex is a leading supplier of decorative fabrics and furnishings, with operations spanning China, Vietnam, and the United States, including research centres and furniture factories.
