Egypt's manufacturing and extractive industries index, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, fell 11.9 per cent in June 2025 to 135.40, down from 119.23 in May, according to CAPMAS report obtained by Amwal Al Ghad English on Monday. The agency updated the methodology for the index using 2012/2013 as the base year, in line with the International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC Rev.4), and has applied the monthly producer price index since January 2020. Industries with increased output: The leather and related products industry rose by 10.72 per cent, with its index climbing to 46.15 in June from 41.68 in May, due to higher supply and demand. The computer, electronic and optical products, and medical devices sector surged 39.45 per cent, with the index increasing to 174.46 from 125.11, also driven by rising market demand. Industries with decreased output: The wood and cork products sector (excluding furniture) fell 5.9 per cent, with the index dropping to 32.55 from 34.59. The textile industry declined 6.04 per cent, with the index falling to 153.37 from 163.23, reflecting reduced supply and demand. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: M. S. Salama
