Egypt became the world's third-largest exporter of dried onions in 2024, shipping 22,000 tons worth $66 million and capturing 12 per cent of global exports, the Food Export Council (FEC) said Sunday. Exports grew 10 per cent in value and 8 per cent in volume between 2020 and 2024, while earnings jumped 37 per cent in 2024 from the previous year on the back of stronger global demand, the council said. Germany was the largest buyer last year with imports worth $14 million, followed by the Netherlands ($12 million), Japan ($7 million), the United States ($6 million) and Indonesia ($6 million). These five markets together accounted for nearly 70 per cent of Egypt's sales. The council said the results reflected rising confidence in Egyptian agricultural products and offered scope for expansion into new markets. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: Y.Yasser
