Egypt will keep the price of subsidised bread unchanged at 20 piasters per loaf despite the recent rise in diesel prices, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk said on Sunday. Farouk said the ministry had taken into account all production inputs and cost components, including fuel prices, in calculating the cost of producing subsidised bread. He added that the government would continue to cover the difference in production costs and compensate bakery owners to ensure the stable supply of subsidised bread through ration cards at the same fixed price, without additional burdens on citizens.
