Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has launched a two-day event celebrating the World Day of Underwater Cultural Heritage on August 20-21 in Alexandria. The opening day featured a temporary exhibition at the Alexandria National Museum titled Secrets of the Sunken City, alongside the inauguration of the museum's new specialised library. Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sherif Fathy opened the library, which houses around 1,100 books covering ancient Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Coptic, Islamic and modern history, as well as museum evidence, restoration sciences, cultural and social topics, and children's books. The facility also provides accessibility for visually impaired visitors. Fathy instructed that museum libraries be integrated into the recently launched EgyTap platform to ensure wider access to knowledge, stressing the importance of interactive and accurate content. He added that the ministry plans to work with tour operators to include Alexandria in travel programmes and link it with the increasingly popular North Coast, boosting tourism flows to the city.
