Egypt's Mediterranean city of Alexandria is set to host an international festival on World Tourism Day next Saturday, with the attendance of a number officials, foreign ambassadors as well as tourists and public figures, aiming to shed light on Alexandria's sunken monuments and treasures. The festival is organised by Egypt's Ministry of Tourism in cooperation with Alexandra Dive Company and will start at the city's historic Citadel. The head of Alexandria Dive Company and festival organiser Ashraf Sabry announced the establishment of the first diving center in the city last May, aiming to create local and international awareness of Alexandria's sunken monuments from the Pharoanic and Roman era. The event will also showcase a number of monuments and artifacts recently retrieved from Cleopatra's sunken city in the Mediterranean. The festival will be covered by local and international media like the Discovery Channel and National Geographic. In 2016, Egypt's Ministry of Antiquities revealed a $150m plan to revive establishing what it says will be the world's first underwater museum, to showcase the submerged ancient ruins and relics of the ancient city.
