UK inflation picked up slightly in July, driven by higher transport costs, particularly air fares, data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed on Wednesday. The Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers' housing costs (CPIH) rose by 4.2 per cent in the 12 months to July 2025, up from 4.1 per cent in in the 12 months to June. On a monthly basis, CPIH was little changed, the same as a year earlier. The core Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 3.8 per cent in the year to July, compared with 3.7 per cent in the year to June. On the month, Transport made the largest upward contribution to both measures, while housing and household services provided a partial offset in CPIH. Core CPIH eased slightly to 4.2 per cent in the 12 months to July 2025, from 4.3 per cent in in the 12 months to June.
