French inflation edged higher in July 2025, with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rising 0.2 per cent from the previous month, following a 0.4 per cent increase in June, according to data released on Thursday from statistics office INSEE. The monthly rise was driven by higher service costs, particularly in transport and accommodation, and a further uptick in energy prices. On an annual basis, inflation held steady at 1.0 per cent, as modest accelerations in service and food prices were offset by a sharper fall in energy costs, down 7.2 per cent year-on-year. Core inflation, which strips out volatile items, rose to 1.5 per cent from 1.2 per cent in June. The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), used for EU comparisons, increased 0.3 per cent month-on-month and 0.9 per cent year-on-year, unchanged from June.
