Spain's inflation accelerated in July 2025, with the consumer price index (CPI) rising to an estimated 2.7 per cent from 2.3 per cent in June, driven mainly by higher electricity and fuel costs, flash data from the National Statistics Institute (INE) showed on Monday. The uptick reflects a sharp contrast with falling electricity prices in July 2024, while fuel costs also rose more than they did a year earlier. Core inflation, which excludes volatile food and energy items, inched up to 2.3 per cent from 2.2 per cent. On a monthly basis, overall consumer prices declined by 0.1 per cent. The EU-harmonised index (HICP) mirrored the national trend, rising to 2.7 per cent annually, with a monthly decline of 0.4 per cent. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: M. S. Salama
