Spain's inflation slowed slightly in April 2025, with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) falling to 2.2 per cent , down from 2.3 per cent in March, according to a preliminary estimate from the National Statistics Institute (INE) published on Tuesday. The decline was mainly driven by falling gas and electricity prices, which rose in the same month last year, as well as cheaper fuel and lubricants for personal vehicles. In contrast, prices for leisure and cultural activities rose, having dropped in April 2024. Core inflation, which excludes unprocessed food and energy, rose to 2.4 per cent from 2.0 per cent, while the monthly CPI increased by 0.6 per cent. The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), used for EU comparisons, also held steady at 2.2 per cent year on year. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: M. S. Salama
