Egypt is in discussions with India's BDR Pharmaceuticals to establish a plant for producing biologic and cancer medicines, the health ministry said on Tuesday. Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met BDR Chairman Dharmesh Shah and Gamal El-Leithy, head of Egypt's Pharmaceutical Chamber and chairman of Future Pharmaceutical Industries, to review plans for the project, which aims to cut reliance on imported high-cost medicines and ease pressure on foreign currency. The minister stressed the government's commitment to localising pharmaceutical production and transferring advanced technologies to secure affordable, safe, and high-quality drugs for patients. He directed that the project be expedited with a clear timeline for completion, the statement said. BDR officials highlighted the company's track record in oncology and biologics manufacturing in other markets, noting the use of advanced technologies that improve healthcare outcomes and expand access at competitive costs.
