Egypt's state-owned railway operator said on Thursday it had temporarily reduced train speeds across much of its network, particularly in Upper Egypt, as a precautionary measure amid soaring temperatures. The Egyptian National Railways (ENR) said the speed restrictions were introduced to protect passengers and infrastructure in line with international safety protocols applied during extreme weather. "Train speeds will return to normal once temperatures fall and operational conditions stabilise," the Cabinet said in a statement, citing the ENR. Central operations rooms and emergency teams have been deployed to monitor conditions, with special focus on the southern lines, which are more vulnerable to heat-related stress. Despite the slowdown, train services in both Upper and Lower Egypt are operating on schedule, with no major disruptions reported.
