Egypt on Friday strongly condemned the Israeli Cabinet's decision to adopt a plan for the full occupation of the Gaza Strip. Cairo said the move aims to entrench Israel's illegal occupation of Palestinian territories, continue what it described as a war of extermination in Gaza, eliminate all aspects of Palestinian life, undermine the right to self-determination, and liquidate the Palestinian cause, in blatant violation of international and humanitarian law. The Foreign Ministry said Israel's continued policy of starvation, systematic killing, and genocide against defenceless Palestinians would only fuel the conflict, deepen hostility, and spread extremism in the region. It blamed the escalation on what it called Israel's brutal aggression against Gaza, which has created an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe in the enclave. Egypt called on the international community, including the UN Security Council and all parties concerned, to assume their political, legal, and moral responsibilities and act urgently to stop what it described as Israel's arrogance and use of brute force to impose a fait accompli, undermine peace prospects, and destroy the two-state solution. It reiterated that Israel and the region will not enjoy security or stability without the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
