The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) processed 6.040 million cheque-clearing transactions valued at 2.56 trillion Egyptian pounds ($52.737 billion) in July 2025, marking a sharp annual decline, according to its latest report. The volume of cheques processed fell by 41 per cent year-on-year, while the total value declined by 29 per cent compared to July 2024. The CBE manages Egypt's multi-currency cheque clearing house, overseeing settlements in Egyptian pounds, US dollars, and euros. On average, around 50,000 cheques are cleared daily. The central bank is responsible for supervising and organising clearing operations, resolving settlement-related issues, and determining net balances in a timely manner, as part of its role in maintaining financial system efficiency.
