The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) processed 824,407 cheque-clearing transactions worth 345.276 billion Egyptian pounds in January 2025, according to its latest report on Sunday. Between January and December 2024, the total number of transactions settled through the Egyptian pound cheque clearing system reached 10.27 million, with a combined value of 3.58 trillion pounds. This marks a significant rise from 2023, when 10.19 million transactions were settled, totaling 2.78 trillion pounds. The CBE operates and oversees the cheque clearing system for Egyptian pounds, US dollars, and euros, ensuring smooth transactions across the banking sector. It manages the Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) system, where net balances are calculated and processed daily.
