Germany's industrial production in real terms (price adjusted) dropped 1.9 per cent in June 2025 from the previous month, hitting its lowest level since May 2020, according to provisional data from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). The decline followed a revised 0.1 per cent fall in May, after significant downward corrections in automotive sector data. On a quarterly basis, output fell by 1.0 per cent in the second quarter, also returning to early pandemic levels. Compared to June 2024, production was down 3.6 per cent. The June slump was driven by sharp declines in machinery and equipment manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and the food industry. Consumer goods output dropped 5.6 per cent, capital goods fell 3.2 per cent, and intermediate goods edged down 0.6 per cent. Excluding energy and construction, industrial output declined 2.8 per cent on the month and 4.7 per cent year-on-year after seasonal and calendar adjustment. Production in energy-intensive sectors fell 2.2 per cent on the month and 7.4 per cent year-on-year, while energy production rose 3.1 per cent and construction grew by 0.7 per cent.
