Egypt's Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy has issued a ministerial decree to raise the official wages for tourist guides across the country, effective October 1, 2025, the ministry announced in a Cabinet statement on Tuesday. The guides will earn EGP 1,800 for a full working day (defined as eight hours) and EGP 1,100 for a half day (four continuous hours), up from the current EGP 1,000 and EGP 600, respectively — marking the first official increase since 2023. Fathy affirmed the ministry's commitment to supporting human capital in Egypt's tourism sector and ensuring a fair working environment that safeguards workers' rights, including those of licensed tour guides. Samia Sami, Assistant Minister for Tourism Companies Affairs, stated that the pay rise follows the minister's directive to improve the economic conditions of tour guides, whose work plays a vital role in promoting Egyptian tourism and enhancing visitors' overall experience. The ministry will circulate an official notice, instructing all tourism companies to comply with the new wage structure and ensure no licensed guide receives less than the stipulated amount, the statement added.
