Egypt's National Library and Archives has officially launched a new set of high-tech digitisation devices at its digital scanning lab to preserve and digitise the nation's cultural heritage, the Cabinet said on Monday. Six state-of-the-art scanners were recently received to accelerate the digitisation of high-demand and early print collections. Priority will be given to the oldest and most frequently consulted items in the research halls. Once scanned, materials are transferred to the restoration labs for conservation and binding before being archived under controlled environmental conditions. The new devices are capable of capturing two images every ten seconds per cycle. Additionally, older scanning equipment has been refurbished and reintegrated into the library's digitisation operations. The head of the Central Administration at the National Library stressed that the new technology aligns with Egypt's digital transformation goals. All new acquisitions are now submitted with a digital copy on CD for archival purposes. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: M. S. Salama
