Egypt will provide compensation packages of up to 1.1 million Egyptian pounds ($22,207) to the families of workers killed in the Ramsis Telephone Exchange fire, following directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the government said Thursday. In a joint statement, the Ministries of Communications and Social Solidarity announced that Telecom Egypt will pay 1 million pounds to each victim's family and 150,000 pounds to each injured worker. The Ministry of Social Solidarity will contribute an additional 100,000 pounds and 25,000 pounds, respectively. The fire, which broke out earlier this week at a central telecom facility in downtown Cairo, resulted in multiple casualties. Authorities are investigating the cause. Ministers Amr Talaat and Maya Morsy extended condolences to the victims' families, describing the deceased as "martyrs of public service," and said the government is committed to supporting those affected.
