Nissan Motor is in talks with Taiwan's Foxconn over a potential electric vehicle (EV) collaboration that could help keep its Oppama plant in Japan operational, the Nikkei business daily reported on Sunday, citing an unidentified Nissan source, according to Reuters. The Oppama plant, which employs around 3,900 workers, has been considered a candidate for consolidation under Nissan's restructuring efforts. However, using the facility to produce Foxconn-brand EVs could help retain jobs and maintain supplier relationships, the report said. Nissan said in a statement that the report was not based on official company information. Foxconn did not immediately comment. The talks follow a May agreement between Foxconn and Mitsubishi Motors, in which a Foxconn unit agreed to supply Mitsubishi with an EV model. Attribution: Reuters Subediting: M. S. Salama
