Egypt-based digital investment platform Thndr has been selected as one of the World Economic Forum's 2025 Technology Pioneers, becoming the only company from Egypt and North Africa to make this year's prestigious list. The recognition places Thndr among a global cohort of 100 early-stage companies "poised to positively shape the future." Past alumni include global names such as Google, PayPal, Dropbox, and SoundCloud. Founded in 2020, Thndr has rapidly emerged as a leading fintech platform across the Middle East and North Africa, offering commission-free access to stocks, gold, mutual funds, and savings products. The company says it now serves over four million users, with 40 per cent based in underserved regions and a sharp rise in female investor participation from 3% to 12 per cent in recent years. "It's a proud moment for us to be recognized by the World Economic Forum," said Thndr CEO and Co-Founder Ahmad Hammouda. He added: "we've built Thndr with that mission at the centre. To see our work recognised on a global stage, alongside companies that have gone on to reshape industries, is incredibly meaningful." "It fuels our belief that the Middle East and North Africa can be a global hub for financial innovation — and we're just getting started." In 2024, Thndr was the top retail broker on the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) for a third consecutive year, accounting for over 82 per cent of new investor registrations and trading 174 billion Egyptian pounds in value. As part of the WEF's two-year programme, Thndr will join other innovators at the Annual Meeting of the Innovator Communities in New York this December, contributing to global discussions on financial inclusion and the digital economy. The 2025 cohort spans 28 countries and frontier technologies from AI to quantum computing. Thndr was one of just two Arab startups selected. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English
