Egyptian investment platform Thndr announced plans to expand into asset management and unveiled a new professional trading platform, ThndrX, as part of its growth strategy following the close of a $15.7 million Series A funding round. The announcements were made during El Qessa Betkabr (A Bigger Story to Tell), billed as Egypt's first fintech product keynote, where the company outlined its efforts to cater to both advanced and first-time investors. The Cairo-based firm said the event brought together over 300 users, industry figures, and partners. CEO Ahmad Hammouda introduced ThndrX as a desktop-first platform developed specifically for active traders, offering speed and advanced tools tailored for high-frequency use. "This isn't about hype — it's about respecting the craft," Hammouda said. "It's not about pushing them to make trades; it's about helping them to win." Thndr also said it has applied for an asset management license, aiming to offer investment products directly to retail users — a move it says will democratise access to wealth management previously reserved for high-net-worth individuals. In addition, the company launched Thndr Alpha, a guided investing feature targeting new investors. The tool provides users with personalised portfolios that include equities, gold, and fixed income products. Hammouda said Alpha is "the foundation for something much bigger," with future iterations designed to help users build full investment plans and personalised strategies. The keynote included a live panel with investors and stakeholders, including Onsi Sawiris and Beltone Venture Capital CEO Ali Mokhtar. Sawiris praised Thndr's mission to expand access to investing, while Mokhtar highlighted the importance of product diversity in empowering users. Thndr's $15.7 million funding round was led by global tech investor Prosus, with participation from Endeavor Catalyst, JIMCO, BECO Capital, Raba, Y Combinator, and the endowment fund of a prominent engineering university. The company said the funds will support product development and regional expansion. Founded in 2020, Thndr has become one of Egypt's leading digital investment platforms, part of a broader shift toward fintech-driven financial inclusion in the region.
