Egypt's Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, met with Martin Vaujour, vice president of French company Alstom for Africa and the Middle East, to review progress on several ongoing joint projects, the Cabinet said on Wednesday. El-Wazir reaffirmed the strength and depth of Egyptian-French relations across economic and development fields. He highlighted the fruitful cooperation with Alstom in implementing key transport and industrial projects. Vaujour praised the bilateral relations between Egypt's Ministries of Transport and Industry and Alstom in advancing rail projects, including upgrading signalling systems across Egypt's railway network and various metro projects. The meeting reviewed the latest developments on the sixth metro line project, which aligns with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's directives to expand sustainable, green mass transit systems and complete the metro network to provide high-quality services to citizens. Discussion also assessed the progress of the construction of Alstom's large industrial complex in Borg El Arab, Alexandria. The complex will house two plants producing electrical systems, railway components, and various types of rolling stock. El-Wazir emphasised the strategic importance of this project in line with the President's call to localise industries in Egypt. The complex represents a major step towards localising rolling stock manufacturing to meet domestic demand and boost exports to the Middle East and Africa, while creating thousands of jobs and strengthening industrial development. The meeting discussed updates on cooperation between the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) and Alstom for the monorail project, a revolutionary and eco-friendly mass transit system, the statement added.
