Egypt's Sisi discusses rail projects, local manufacturing push with Alstom CEO
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 06 - 04 - 2025

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met on Sunday with CEO of French transport giant Alstom Henri Poupart-Lafarge to review the progress of key rail projects and industrial localisation efforts in Egypt, the presidency said in a statement.
The meeting, attended by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly and Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir, focused on Alstom's ongoing infrastructure projects across the country, as well as plans to boost domestic railway manufacturing.
Talks highlighted the development of Alstom's upcoming industrial complex in Borg El Arab, which will include two factories: one for electrical systems and rail components, and another for assembling rolling stock of various types. The facility aims to supply Egypt's domestic market and serve as a regional export hub for the Middle East and Africa.
The officials also reviewed progress on the Cairo Metro Line 6 project, part of Egypt's efforts to expand sustainable, high-capacity public transit options. Discussions included updates on negotiations related to the management, operation, and maintenance of the East and West Nile monorail systems.
President Sisi stressed the need to complete all projects on schedule to align with the government's broader strategy to modernise transport and localise key industries, the statement added.
